Religious Tourism

Religion has always been related to tradition, lifestyle and customs of the Salamancan villagers, hence many Salamancan monuments, festivities and other legacies are connected to religious beliefs.

The villages of the province preserve a unique heritage represented by their churches, cathedrals, monasteries and convents, as well as their festivities and traditions.

Ciudad Rodrigo Cathedral

This is undoubtedly the most important monument in the city. King Fernando II de Leon promoted the construction of this building at the end of the 12th century, although the building works took place along six centuries and this brought many changes and influences as a result.

Teresian Route: from Ávila to Alba de Tormes with Teresa of Jesus

The route "From the craddle to the grave" links the cities of Ávila and Alba de Tormes, both Teresian by excellence, thus offering the pilgrim a historical and spiritual tour after the footprints of the Restless Saint.

Living passions

The Holy Week is one the firmest traditions in the city of Salamanca. Actually, it is the main religious even of the capital city of the province, with its 17 religious associations that organise 22 processions and acts.

Offertories and romeria pilgrimages

Also remarkable in the framework of Salamanca popular festivities are the offertories and the romerias, a unique occasion to get to know and share the religious passion of the people.
